Growing up, in Puerto Rico, I was surrounded by many genres of music. From salsa to merengue and let's not leave out reggaetón. The first time I remember a recognizable classical-music experience was while listening to the Star Wars: A New Hope soundtrack.

All this to say that I did not grow up listening to classical music. In fact, my first official curiosity about classical music started when I began playing the bassoon at 15. For this reason I have been able to observe classical music from a farther-standing lens. For me, classical music was not manifested or taught to me as a form of elitist religion as I later observed to be true (in my eyes) with many of my professional colleagues who grew up listening to the great symphonies and great composers. I always knew about Beethoven since he was the only composer worthy of mentioning most likely due to my dad's collection of CDs from its symphonies or more likely due to owning a DVD and watching the movie "The Immortal Beloved". For these reasons, sometimes I feel like an outsider. But, this is the reason I wanted to start this blog. To share my perspective of someone who may see things differently with the hope that maybe I do not see things as differently as I think. In the best-case scenarios at least it could get people thinking or reflecting on certain topics that I consider to be taboo.

These views may change over time and for me, it is more of a time capsule of my thinking of certain topics at a certain time, so do not take any of these opinions personally or to heart. These are just my opinions after all.

As a final thing to consider, I am not a writer and my primary language is Spanish so this should not be considered by any standards anything official or professional. Still, I hope you can learn something and at the very least be challenged to think further about the topics discussed.
